About This Place

Nestled in the heart of downtown Durham, Banh's Cuisine offers a genuine taste of Vietnamese culinary tradition fused with popular Pho specialties that keep locals coming back time and again. This unassuming Vietnamese restaurant at 750 9th St stands out not with flashy décor, but with hearty, soul-satisfying dishes that practically invite you in with their bright aromas and vibrant flavors.

Step inside, and you’ll immediately sense the warmth of a small family-run eatery dedicated to great food and genuine hospitality. Guests frequently praise Banh's Cuisine not only for its authentic menu but for the welcoming spirit radiating from the team behind the counter—a feeling that you’re truly part of the community here.

The menu is a delightful tour of Vietnamese favorites and beloved Asian-inspired dishes, crafted with fresh, quality ingredients. Signature dishes like Moo Goo Gai Pan and Sesame Chicken demonstrate a perfect balance of crispy textures and rich sauces bursting with depth. For those craving a classic Vietnamese street food experience, their Banh MI sandwiches deliver the perfect harmony of crunchy baguette, savory meats, and fresh vegetables. Soup lovers will be drawn to the famous Pho Chuy and Hu Tieu, each steaming bowl packed with fragrant herbs and tender noodles that soothe and satisfy.

Vegetarians also find their moment to shine here, especially with the popular Vegetarian Plate available on Saturdays, which features a colorful and fragrant assortment of mixed vegetables and perfectly seasoned fried rice. The Vermicelli Bowl is another standout — light yet filling, with a wonderful interplay of textures and balanced flavors.

The menu extends beyond Vietnamese classics, embracing complementary dishes like Kung Pao Chicken and Sweet and Sour Chicken, both applauded for their bold, lively flavors and crisp textures, often cited by customers as great values for their generous portions. For those who appreciate something a little different, items like Gooru Rice Pudding round out the experience with a comforting, subtly sweet finish.

Many guests highlight the authenticity and freshness of the ingredients—the vegetables taste vibrant, never canned or over-processed, and the meats are cooked with care to remain juicy and flavorful. The fried rice, while lighter in seasoning, is perfectly designed to be paired with the full-bodied sauces that accompany many entrées, allowing each bite to be customized and delicious.

We ordered kongpao chicken and sweet and sour chicken. Averaging about $8 each dish. Probably the most best value in town. Don't know how they make money by such a price Maybe they care more about people then business. Both dishes tasted good. Sweet and sour is very crispy and kongpao is flavourful. Anyways. It's owned by a small family business. They are super welcoming and courteous. Lunch time was fully packed.

Good spot for Vietnamese eats, Menu changes often The soup today we got was full of good minced meat and flavor They have plenty side dishes for a few dollars Place seems to be there for a while. I liked the sticky rice with peanuts Nothing fancy but good food ! Parking is tricky for dt Durham, but you can find street parking

I will definitely visit again! I think I just didn't order the right thing. I got the chicken curry which didn't really have any flavor. Everything else looked good on the menu and I'm sure next time I go, my review will change to a 5 star

This place is small and simple in design, but dont be fouled!! Their food is great!! The veggies are fresh!! They did look or taste canned The meat is well cooked and the seamse chicken was crispy. The sauce is FULL of flavor!!!!!! Great consistency! The fried rice is actually fresh. Flavor is lighter, but there's so much good sauce, u can easily mix it with the rice. Overall, I love it!! Thank you Banh's Cuisine for a wonderful lunch

They do accept credit cards now. Best Asian food in the triangle. So fresh and flavorful. A true authentic gem below the radar. The owners are such lovely people.

We had hot and sour soup, ginger chicken and sesame tofu and they tasted like 5 star dishes. They were actually out of the soup but the owner made us a fresh pot. The chicken was super tender, and the plentiful amount of fresh ginger and broccoli was exactly what we needed. It was a delicious and nutritious meal! (Thank you to the owner who made fresh soup for us).

No fuss, no hassle Viet/Chinese joint on 9th street. They take card. If you’re looking for extravagance, go elsewhere. The food speaks for itself. The price confirms the experience.
